Social Responsibility

BearingPoint is committed to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. We encourage our people to act responsibly and with long-term outcomes in view both in their consultancy work and through our pro-bono social initiatives.

The Desertec Industrial Initiative (Dii)

We are involved in efforts to address global environmental challenges, in particular those connected with sustainable energy. In July 2010 we joined the Desertec Industrial Initiative (Dii).

The Dii, initiated by a non-profit organisation, the Desertec Foundation, aims to create a framework that uses sustainable and climate-friendly sun and wind from the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East to generate power, and to supply this carbon-free energy to Europe and the nations that produce it.

We believe that Desertec is a visionary initiative with significant ecological and economic potential. We are convinced of the initiative’s urgency and feasibility, and are delighted to be supporting it.

The challenge is to make a success of a process in which so many major transnational energy and technology groups are actively involved.

As a partner, we can add our management capabilities and operational skills as well as our collaborative expertise within the technology and energy sector.

We are corporate citizens

Our consultants never forget that they are part of a wider society.

Plan International promotes children’s rights and lifts millions of children out of poverty throughout the world. BearingPoint gives this life-changing charity invaluable pro-bono professional and fundraising support in Norway and Switzerland.

In Ireland, we provide technical and business support pro-bono to the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) – an organization which provides education, screening and support to people affected by serious heart health issues. BearingPoint staff built and continue to develop/enhance the website as well as raise funds through sports and social events and other public, sponsored activities such as charity runs/events.

We play a leading part with Impetus Trust in the UK. This pioneer in venture philanthropy relies on our free business and technical support to accelerate the growth of its many European and global charity investment ventures. Our UK employees also support and raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

In France, our experts have participated in several working groups of the Institut Montaigne (on European Energy Policy, The Future of Management Schools, etc.). BearingPoint has also published two "point of views" within the publication “Notes” to the largest French think tank on international relations, IFRI (Telecoms in Africa, ICT and Health in Africa).

Moreover, our people work with social partnerships such as ‘Planète Urgence’, helping to stimulate growth in developing countries, and ‘Nos quartiers ont du talent’ to promote diversity and help young people from disadvantaged areas find employment.

Finally, with the HyperCube Institute, we enable researchers to benefit from HyperCube’s technology. It is already being implemented in multiple projects dealing with major health issues in such distinguished institutions as the Gustave Roussy for lung cancer, Pasteur Institute for malaria and Association Remera, congenital malformations.

We act sustainably

Sustainability is part of our DNA.

In France we regularly track our Carbon Footprint to measure the impact of our activities on the environment. In 2009 BearingPoint produced 510 tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent, which means 0.6 tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent per employee. We also carry out a ‘CSR’ dashboard. It helps us track our performance in sustainable development by using social, environmental and economic key indicators.

The UN Global Compact is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. We are committed to these principles.
