Our social Responsability

BearingPoint as a Firm is committed to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. As part of our efforts, we encourage responsible behavior by our people. The following are examples of the initiatives BearingPoint is currently pursuing :

BEARINGPOINT IS ASSOCIATED PARTNER OF Dii

DesertecBearingPoint is committed to and involved in efforts to address global environmental challenges, and in particular those related to sustainable energy. In July 2010 we joined the Desertec Industrial Initiative, the largest private sector industry initiative for sustainable and climate-friendly power generation.

  • The Dii, which was initiated by the non-profit organisation Desertec Foundation, aims to create the framework for generating sustainable and climate-friendly power in the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East, supplying carbon-free energy to the producer nations and to Europe. The Dii’s activities focus on power generation from the sun and wind in the deserts of the Middle East and North Africa and transmitting it to local populations as well as the European interconnected grid. Dii will objectively investigate and identify suitable technologies for power generation and transmission.
  • We believe that Desertec is a visionary initiative with significant ecological and economic potential. It has global impact and is of high political relevance. We are convinced of the initiative’s urgency and feasibility, and we are happy to support it. The challenge is to direct a process in which some of the major transnational energy and technology groups are actively involved, and to make this a success. As a partner, we add our management capabilities and operational skills as well as our expertise within the technology and energy sector.

CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP

BearingPoint people always act as both consultant and citizen.

  • In Norway, BearingPoint people have contributed pro bono work to advise Plan Norway (part of Plan International) how to improve and further develop its operations.
  • In Switzerland, BearingPoint people support Plan Switzerland with pro bono work to help share their messages using modern applications, and develop a social media strategy.
  • In France, BearingPoint is a member of several institutes and Think Tanks. This commitment is a way for the firm to contribute "to the debate in the city" through donations, providing expertise or skills sponsorship. Beyond the financial aspect, and as an illustration, our experts have worked in several working groups of the Institut Montaigne (energy policy of Europe, Future of Management Schools, etc.).. BearingPoint has also published two "point of views" within the publication “Notes” to the largest French think tank on international relations, IFRI (Telecoms in Africa, ICT and Health in Africa).
Moreover, BearingPoint people work with social partnerships such as ‘Planète Urgence’, helping stimulate growth in developing countries, and ‘Nos quartiers ont du talent’ to promote diversity and help young people from disadvantaged areas find employment.
  • In Ireland, BearingPoint is proud to be associated with the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), providing our technical skills and expertise on a pro-bono basis and matching funds raised by our employees through various initiatives and endeavours.
  • In the UK, BearingPoint is proud to be associated with the charity Impetus Trust, the pioneer in venture philanthropy. We support Impetus in a variety of ways including providing our technical skills and expertise on a pro-bono basis to accelerate the growth of their charities. Our employees also support and raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is part of our day by day behaviors. For instance:

  • In France we regularly track our Carbon Footprint to measure the impact of our activities on the environment. In 2009 BearingPoint produced 510 tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent, which means 0.6 tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent per employee.
  • We carry out a ‘CSR’ dashboard. It helps us track our performance in Sustainable Development using social, environmental and economic key indicators.
  • We are committed to the UN Global Compact and its principles.
