Between 1990 and 2005, greenhouse gas emissions in transport and logistics increased by 30% whereas they fell in every other industry sector.
There is increasing pressure to act. The transport and logistics sector is becoming more and more subject to regulation:
The market has also become more sensitive to green concerns - in 2012, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the first time asked shippers about the emissions of their logistics service providers.
Furthermore, customers are increasingly demanding detailed data on emissions for every single shipment. Detailed data on greenhouse gases is therefore becoming a competitive factor in business.
To help you respond, at BearingPoint we have developed an innovative emissions calculator for logistics companies: LogEC.
You can find detailed information on www.LogEC.net.
LogEC supplies a calculation per single transport leg and per single shipment. This includes a report on transportation-based greenhouse gas emissions as well as a separate report on the environmental impacts of warehousing and transition processes, including a consideration of the individual energy mix and use of electricity.
All types of global transport are covered, including road, rail, air and sea traffic.
The calculation uses the highest degree of accuracy (for example real data about consumption) as well as generic data from invoices. In addition, LogEC’s simulation feature enables you to make calculations in advance and compare average data and realistic transport fleet data.
As logistics service providers’ networks are shown in the tool, shippers can also use LogEC without real-time information about the actual flow of their shipments.
LogEC automatically switches to generic data from official databases such as B. HBEFA 3.1 when real data is missing.
As calculations are made per single transport leg and per single shipment, the results can be adapted individually and easily to meet all reporting requirements, for example emissions per shipment, customer, business unit or country.
LogEC was built and certified according to the prEN 16258 and French decree no 2011-1336.
“You can’t manage what you don’t measure.”
To create a green supply chain management system you need accurate information on emissions.
That’s why our dedicated team developed the innovative LogEC tool.
We have developed LogEC to help both shippers and logistics service providers, building in direct interfaces to and from SAP to enable data exchange.
