Out of numerous applications from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Romania, ten student teams were pre-selected for the grand finale of Be an Innovator 2017 in Berlin.
The event took place at the co-working- and event space “Factory Berlin” in Berlin Mitte, in midst of young entrepreneurs and innovative.
With the support of their BearingPoint coaches, each teams presented its pitch and faced challenging questions from the BearingPoint jury. This year’s final teams were:
- Feetback (TU Darmstadt)
- Inveox (TU München)
- RetailQuant (Uni Göttingen)
- Talpasolutions (RWTH Aachen)
- StampOwl (FH Krems)
- Skipper (HSG Universität St.Gallen)
- Komed Health (IFA)
- Exposure VR (Bucarest Business School)
- EBA (University Politehnica of Bucharest)
- iStudy (Universitatea Bucuresti)
All the exciting, innovative and creative ideas made it very difficult for our jury to pick 3 winner teams, but after a long discussion, the decision was made:
1st Prize: Team Skipper (Switzerland) – 8,000 Euro and one year consulting from BearingPoint
Team Skipper, represented by Timarian Rust and Andreas Beirholm, developed a business model for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), which should enable these to optimize their freight container logistics within the freight route between USA and Europe. Their digital platform offers more price transparency and benchmark opportunities and therefore SMEs have more basis for negotiation on the freight container market.
Timarian Rust states after being announced this year’s winner: "The Be an Innovator event from BearingPoint was an outstanding learning opportunity for us due to the intensive support. Having won, we are excited to continue working with BearingPoint as a competent and resourceful partner."

Under the motto “rethinking pathology”, they presented their innovative product: a digitized container for tissue specimine, in order to optimize the process, avoid errors and save costs. “Be an Innovator was a fantastic event for us with great pitches and contact to other participants and the jury. This really will really advance our start-up! Great feedback and networking with a top-class jury! Thank you BearingPoint.” is what Maria Driesel stated after receiving the 2nd prize.

3rd Prize: Team RetailQuant (Germany) – 1,000 Euro
Representing Team RetailQuant, Gordan Volaric and Arcadi Llanza took the stage and presented their digital product idea for stationary retail. A measuring device placed at cash registers is supposed to anonymously record certain demographic parameters of customers and process these into usable data. A whole digital eco-system is being created and therefore, retailers can evaluate the customer behavior and develop according strategies. The team was happy to win third prize and told us: “The most important component for us at the Be an Innovator contest was the close collaboration with BearingPoint and especially with our coach. At the event itself, we were thrilled by the atmosphere and the openness oft he other start-ups. Networking and discussions about possible cooperations were on a very friendly level and left a lot of opportunity for creativity. The Be an Innovator Contest and the received feedback were in all aspects an enrichment for RETAIL-Quant and for us as founders.”
