The 23 hospitals ranged in size from just 20 patient beds to large ones with 200 beds. They were very different in nature. For the past 20-30 years these service providers have served solely the war veterans, therefore they have not needed to do business planning.
The client base of these providers and the services needed was in rapid change. This was causing major challenges for the hospitals in transforming their strategy and operations for new clients such as municipal health care providers.
The service providers needed to increase their business knowledge, increase profitability and find new ways to do business in order to keep the elderly care knowledge and good facilities in use.
BearingPoint conducted an initial analysis of the needs of the 23 service providers. This revealed the challenges and gave the ground for planning a transformation programme for them.
