My role

As a senior business analyst my role is to support on specific parts of a project and contribute to the key deliverables. Depending on what type of project I’m on, my role can vary massively. For example, during my time at BearingPoint my roles have included: supporting the development of a three-year strategy for a charity; completing financial modelling to support investment in sustainability for a car manufacturer, implementing process improvement for a gas network and producing carbon emissions reports for freight companies.

Normal day

I’ll often start the day with a short call with the project team from BearingPoint to confirm the priority actions for the day and the week ahead. I’m currently in a programme management role and this means part of my responsibility includes attending several client project review meetings with different departments. During these calls we will review progress, discuss any identified risks and assess how the programme benefits are tracking. Between client calls, the tasks I complete varies day to day, but this might include preparing materials for upcoming client workshops or trainings, completing data analysis to quantify programme benefits or drafting key communication to stakeholders about upcoming milestones or meetings. Beyond my project I’ll often find time in my day to dedicate to internal practice work. I’m supporting our CSR fundraising events so this time might include a call focused on this or creating marketing materials.

Outside the office

Outside of the office I spend a lot of time doing different sports. I enjoy running, going to the gym and swimming. Recently, I have taken up road cycling which I am currently getting to grips with! A typical weekend will also often include going for walks and meeting friends at the pub. Like most people I also try to maximise the use of my holidays to travel to new places. My current next destination being Japan.

Why BearingPoint?

When I was applying for jobs straight out of university, the main draw into consulting was the variety of industries, types of business areas and different senior stakeholders you get to work with. For me, BearingPoint enables you to gain this breadth of experience from day one, not requiring you to specialise within a certain segment or service line until you are more senior. Since joining I have worked with clients in a huge range of industries which has enabled me to develop a broad range of skills. Beyond this, BearingPoint’s non-hierarchical structure means you are client facing from the start of your career, interacting with senior stakeholders directly on a daily basis.
