Businesses today are being asked to deliver more with the same or sometimes even less. They’re navigating complex digital transformations, protecting performance and service levels, and trying to foster a healthy, engaged culture all at the same time. It’s a tough balance, and even the strongest organisations can feel stretched.

We have worked with many organisations across varied industries facing these same challenges, they all had something in common… the ‘accidental’ manager.

The rise of the ‘accidental’ manager…

Front-line managers are typically promoted into their role because they are good at their current roles – but they can sometimes lack formal management training or leadership skills.

New managers often end up learning the role from their peers, or manager, who typically have come through the same process. As a result, we see front-line ‘reactive’ managers, typically spending less than 25% of their time ‘actively managing’. In essence, the day is managing them, rather than them managing their day.

When organisations have provided support to try to bridge this gap typically through classroom based training, evidence suggests as little as 5-10% is then actually applied in the workplace.

What is missing is the opportunity to bring that theory into practice in the day to day. Testing and trying and applying in real situations, and then building the rhythms and routines to turn knowledge into competency and skill.

The Active Manager

An Active Manager is a confident, skilled manager who combines management training with practical tools and knowledge to coach, guide, and support their team.

They are able to:

  • Manage change with resilience and agility in constantly evolving environments
  • Effectively support, mentor and build high performing teams
  • Proactively challenge and manage poor performance
  • Devote between 60% and 70% of their time to their team

Our Active Manager Methodology

Active management develops self-aware, performanced focused Managers  who are skilled at providing coaching, guidance, assistance and support to the team in a positive, constructive and impactful way.

Managers need to clearly understand their role, the routines which will support them, and the soft and hard skills required to manage their tasks, their time, and their team effectively. Our accelerated approach leverages 5 key success fundamentals to achieve this.

On the job coaching alongside a cloud-based platform supports the tracking, understanding, and embedding of new tools, routines, and behaviours.
