"The company values are what drew me to BearingPoint.  In particular, we are encouraged to deliver lasting outcomes for our clients, so that they stay as long-term clients."

Can you describe your current job role and the main responsibilities you have?

I provide architectural expertise and guidance to our clients.  This can be for short engagements, perhaps a review, but frequently it’s for longer periods to work on the delivery of solutions from cradle to grave.

My primary focus is Cloud Solution Architecture (Azure & some AWS), but I cover a wide range of technologies. The clients are typically corporate and government clients, and the projects often deliver high-profile, mission-critical solutions.   In some cases, I deliver the architecture designs; in other cases, I support the architect teams doing this work.

What do you enjoy most about your job and why?

I genuinely find my work very rewarding and enjoyable.  It is diverse, and each engagement poses a different challenge.  Each client has different technology stacks, their own specific business objectives and their own set of challenges.

We need creative solutions to meet these challenges, and I very much enjoy being innovative and designing new ways of doing things.  The best bit is seeing people using (and liking) the solutions I helped to build.

What motivated you to pursue this career path?

I did a business degree, but quickly realised that accounting wasn’t for me!  However, I loved the computing modules, and my Masters degree combined maths and computing.

Solution Architecture combines both areas: understanding how a business works and the required outcomes, and architecting technical solutions that deliver the required functionality.

What skills or experiences have you gained from your current role that you find valuable?

Every project and role is a learning experience.  In most cases, it's learning about new business challenges or new technologies and solutions.  In other cases, it is seeing how different organisations work, or even learning new perspectives from people and picking up tips from them.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in your field?

I think that it's a very rewarding role, and I would certainly recommend it to individuals who enjoy creating solutions for a variety of clients and technical challenges.

I would encourage having a learning mindset, to constantly learn new technologies and skills, focus on your qualifications, and learn from the people & organisations around you.
