I started at BearingPoint in January 2019 after having attended university for 7 years. I started with the university of applied sciences (HBO Commerciële Economie), after which I attended Tilburg University where I gotten two masters (Strategic management and Finance).

It was not until my last two years of university I knew what type of work I would like to do. After trying consultancy as a part-time job during my time at the university I knew for sure that I wanted to become a consultant. Eventually, I heard about BearingPoint by coincidence, a big consultancy firm with more than 4,500 consultants throughout Europe, but a relatively small office in the Netherlands with approximately 50 consultants.

The benefits of working in a small office is that everybody knows each other and you work on a broad range of projects, learning a lot more than if you were working in a big consultancy firms where you are easily committed to a specific department. At the same time, you can still enjoy the feel of being part of a big impactful company. An example: all new employees go to Berlin for a week of training with over 200 colleagues that started in different countries. Next to that, there are enough possibilities to do a project in a country abroad.

Since I started at BearingPoint, I have been part of three fulfilling projects. The first project was at one of the world’s largest MedTech companies, the second project was for an international pharmaceutical company and the third project was for an exclusive fashion brand. All three projects had very different problems to tackle and this challenge is exactly why I like consulting so much. Besides learning on the job experience, BearingPoint offers a lot of different training opportunities. BearingPoint offers new employees that have just finished university or are new to consulting a 1000-day programme, where you experience what it’s like to work in different teams. There are often training workshops on a Friday that everybody can attend. Outside of work, BearingPoint organizes different activities such as Friday afternoon drinks, activities to ensure teambuilding, we throw a big annual New Years party, annual ski-trip and a special day where we do fun activities with all new employees.
