The groups Adidas and H&M sparked outrage in Germany on Sunday 29 March by announcing their intention to stop paying rent for stores forced to close because of the coronavirus epidemic. These announcements come at a time when the German government has unveiled a major rescue plan to protect businesses and jobs from the economic impact of the pandemic.  "It is indecent and unacceptable that financially strong companies should stop paying their rents," said the German Justice Minister.

Nike pleasantly surprised the markets on Tuesday, reporting solid quarterly results, despite the coronavirus pandemic that led to the closure of 75% of its stores in China at the peak of the country's health crisis. Revenues increased 5% to $10.1 billion in the three months ended February 29, the third quarter of fiscal 2019/20. This increase was driven by a 36% jump in online sales, underlining the explosion of e-commerce during this health crisis.
