Executive Summary

Managing a vast array of raw materials in production and warehousing environments like Röhm’s requires more than just manpower, it demands precision, visibility, and the right digital tools. In order to meet this challenge, Röhm turned to BearingPoint’s EWM Efficiency Enhancer. This solution improved warehouse operations by optimizing material maintenance and tracking, ensuring a reliable supply chain from end to end.

Mastering the complexities of product records maintenance process

Röhm is one of the world's leading manufacturers in methacrylate chemistry, supplying customers in dynamic industries such as automotive, construction, and medical technology. For fast and reliable deliveries to its customers, Röhm is therefore dependent on precise and efficient handling of the various raw materials in its warehouse network: each category of raw material is associated with a specific product within the company’s warehouse management systems.

The management of materials begins with the careful creation and configuration of records within SAP ERP, followed by their systematic transfer to the Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) system. Ensuring the accuracy and comprehensive enrichment of product data within EWM is crucial for achieving operational excellence and strategic performance goals. Any inconsistencies or deficiencies in data integrity can cause disruptions in warehouse operations, particularly during inbound logistics processes, which can affect proper storage allocation, hinder the smooth flow of materials, and possibly impact the entire supply chain. Additionally, the process of individually analyzing, setting up, and maintaining product master records within EWM transactions is labor-intensive, ultimately undermining business agility, efficiency, and competitive positioning.

Optimizing internal processes with a customized solution

Following a successful four-year partnership, Röhm entrusted BearingPoint with enhancing its material management practices. After analyzing the existing processes for product creation and maintenance across the SAP EWM system, the project team mapped the workflows, identified pain points, and gathered the requirements. Based on all findings, a comprehensive transformation roadmap was defined to address data inconsistencies.

BearingPoint tailored its EWM Efficiency Enhancer, a Fiori application designed to streamline the creation of materials and the maintenance of product master data in SAP EWM. In close collaboration with Röhm, the project team successfully integrated the new tool into the company’s IT infrastructure and provided employees with the comprehensive training needed for successful adoption. Following implementation, BearingPoint continued to provide support for new enhancements, ensuring consistent, high-quality material data across Röhm’s operations.

Gaining improved warehouse operations

By leveraging BearingPoint’s EWM Efficiency Enhancer, Röhm has significantly streamlined its warehouse operations with precise classification, storage, and tracking of goods within the SAP EWM system. Enabling mass item creation and maintenance has substantially decreased processing time and improved the accuracy of product-related data, resulting in reliable workflows. With improved visibility of items across all warehouses, Röhm maintains its materials properly and keeps stock levels up to date.

The seamless comparison of materials between SAP ERP and EWM has enhanced data transparency, thereby reducing inconsistencies and disruptions. As a result, Röhm has experienced increased productivity and satisfaction among its warehouse staff.
